4 Easy Ways to Save Your Body While saving the Earth
I have long been an advocate of taking great care of the environment since attending my first Earth Day in Boston in April of 1995. I am into conservation, despise littering, and am very conscientious about recycling. I have twice as much recycling as I do trash each week, and go out of my way to make sure that something that Can be recycled Is recycled -- whether at home or out somewhere. A lot of people don't understand it, or rib me about it, but I don't care -- our earth is worth it!
This article was inspired by the Live Earth concert event held nearby the world this past weekend on 07/07/07. The music, the communal consciousness, and the conservation snippits shown throughout the day were entertaining and I am hopeful that it will make a big impact. In an endeavor to do my part to carry the message forward, I understanding I would consolidate some condition and weight loss tips with some things that are also good for the environment and can allow you to do your part in curbing global warming.

Healthy Body/Healthy Earth Tip #1:
Buy water from a water store & drink at least 64 oz. Per day.
Don't let anything try to convince you that drinking at least 8 glasses of water/day is not crucial to your condition -- or that drinking things that "contain" water (such as coffee or soda) are the same -- they're Not. Pure water, without anything in it that the body has to break down or digest, is needed to flush your intestines and organs and hydrate your cells. Would you wash your clothes with soda? Would you take a shower in coffee? I didn't think so. Water's main job is to Cleanse. When you drink enough water daily you will flush your insides thoroughly, helping remove toxic build-up, excess fat and sugar, and undigested food from your body.
The only exception to drinking pure water would be natural herbal teas (hot or iced) and water with fresh lemon/lime, which the body does not have to digest and digest indeed into the blood stream to have a definite and salutary impact on the body (more about this in a hereafter article). So, why do I propose getting your water from a water store? Isn't bottled water good enough? Well, it depends. From my study and experience, water that is processed using reverse osmosis and carbon filtration is going to be the best water for you (more on this in an upcoming edition). AquaFina water is one commercial water I've found that is filtered by reverse osmosis.
But it takes a lot of vigor to make all those plastic bottles that the water is packaged in, and more vigor to recycle them. Many are not even recycled and clutter up our landfills or waterways. I saw on a clip from Live Earth that an median of 2 million water bottles are used every second nearby the globe, and the median American consumed more than 400 beverage bottles and cans in 2006! Also, because they are made with thin, low-grade plastic, they break down very indeed and quickly, leaching plastic into the water inside them, especially if they get heated or frozen.
If you get water from a local water store, you can buy large, high-grade plastic packaging to get 1 or more gallons of fresh, pure water at a time and reuse them for years. Costs will vary depending on where you live, but my water store charges about 43 cents/gallon for self-serve and 99 cents/gallon delivered. That's still way cheaper than a bottle of water, so you will also be recovery lots of money!
Healthy Body/Healthy Earth Tip #2:
Drive less and get more practice by walking, riding a bike, or even rollerblading to the store or work.
In the United States, our cars rehearse one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Agreeing to the atmosphere Trust, if you drive 12,000 miles per year at 20 miles per gallon, you're adding more than 5 tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere annually. How many times do you get in your car to drive to the grocery store just nearby the corner? If you're just planning to pick up a few things, why not walk or bike instead? You will burn fat instead of fuel, cutting down on Co2 emissions.
Get a small basket for the front or back of your bike so you can carry items, or use a baby stroller to hold items on your walk back. If you're a parent, get your kids into it with you. You will be spending fun time with them, slowing down your hectic pace, getting some shopping done, and setting a good example for an active lifestyle and being earth-friendly! If you work near where you live, perhaps rollerblading or biking to work could be an selection for you on several, if not all, work days (weather permitting). Agreeing to study at the University of Denver, if you leave your car at home two days a week, you could sacrifice your Co2 emissions by about 1,590 lbs. In a year and save money on gas, too. The median fat a 190-lb. Man would burn riding a bike "lightly" (10-11.9 mi./hr.) is 518 per hour, so peddle away those pounds! (calculation found on www. Nutristrategy.com).
Healthy Body/Healthy Earth Tip #3:
Eat at home more often. Eating out can throw you off track with your salutary eating intentions. Restaurant measure sizes, food preparation, and "upselling" food ("super sizing," appetizers, desserts, drinks, etc.) can lead you down the path of inordinate and unhealthy eating. Although there are many ways to eat well when eating out (hmmm...sounds like material for a hereafter "Healthy You!" edition), eating at home more can take these temptations out of the equation. You have more operate over food choices, measure sizes, and how the food is prepared when you fix meals at home. This includes meals you get ready and take to work with you.
Food prepared at home also creates less environmental impact, including the fuel used for cooking the food and for traveling there and back; packaging of food; and clean-up. You will also save a lot of money on gas, taxes & tip, and "extra" food purchases, along with those extra calories, sugars, and fats.
Healthy Body/Healthy Earth Tip #4:
Buy fresh, locally grown/locally produced food and organics.
Buying locally produced food cuts out the middlemen and the vast amounts of vigor required to get your products onto store shelves. Conservation International reports that most produce in U.S. Supermarkets travels an median 1,500 miles before it is sold! Aside from those communication and storage costs, how nutritious can it be by then?
Go to Local Harvest's website (www.localharvest.org) and type in your zip code to see a list of farms and farmers' markets close to home, as well as nearby restaurants committed to supporting local farmers. Food bought fresh and in-season also costs less, tastes better, and contains more of the vitamins, nutrients, and enzymes a body needs to stay salutary and fit.
Go organic! besides being more nutritious due to growing practices, and safer because they are grown without chemical pesticides, organic produce also helps fight global warming. Organic farms capture carbon dioxide from the air and trap it in the soil. In fact, Agreeing to liveneutral.org, organic soils comprise up to 28% more carbon than other soils. Most grocery shop now offer organic foods, and due to increased buyer demand, there is more variety at lower costs than ever.
